Roxy’s First Reader Poll: Planning the Menu for PostBoy and MathGirl’s Rehearsal Dinner at Il Palio in Shelton, Connecticut

In one of Roxy’s all-time favorite movies, When Harry Met Sally, Billy Crystal (as Harry Burns) said to Meg Ryan (as Sally Albright):  “I love that you get cold when it’s 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you’re looking at me like I’m nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it’s not because I’m lonely, and it’s not because it’s New Year’s Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”

That’s the kind of love that’s in the air here as we celebrate Thanksgiving in the Roxiticus Valley, New Jersey. If you’ve been keeping up with the latest in the lives of Roxy, Rex, and the Roxiticus Desperate Housewives, you may remember that Rex’s son, PostBoy, proposed to MathGirl last Spring.  We’re getting closer to their February wedding, and the happy couple will be coming to our house for Thanksgiving #2 this Saturday.  Rex will be back in the kitchen, preparing another amazing fresh Empire Kosher Turkey dinner for our group of eleven, with all of his family’s favorite side dishes.  We’re going to take the opportunity to plan the menu for their rehearsal dinner at Il Palio in Shelton, Connecticut, and I thought I’d have a little fun by inviting my loyal readers to vote for your favorite Il Palio entree. Since I’m still in the WordPress for Dummies phase of my blogging career, I haven’t been able to get the automated WordPress poll plugin working, so I’m going to take a more personal, less automated route to gathering your feedback. 

We need to provide three choices of entrees for our fifty guests to choose from, narrowing it down from the following menu:

  • Risotto Corte Brasate (Braised short ribs, Arborio rice, wild mushrooms) $26
  • Bistecca Il Palio (Grilled New York strip steak, crispy gorgonzola polenta, baby portobella ) $34
  • Balsamico Arista con Cavalo (Oven roasted balsamic glazed pork loin, cabbage compote, natural jus) $24
  • Pollo Arrosto (Oven roasted chicken, lentil salad, grilled asparagus, brown sauce) $23
  • Pollo alla Milanese (Breaded chicken breast, arugula & endive salad, tomato, garlic, extra virgin olive oil) $21
  • Falda di Manzo (Grilled skirt steak, potato puree, broccoli rabe, balsamic drizzle) $28
  • Salmone di Arancia (Orange scented grilled salmon filets, toasted pearl pasta, black pepper orange aioli) $27
  • Branzino Cileno (Pan roasted Chilean sea bass, straw potatoes, cockles, roasted red peppers, smoked bacon) $32
  • Ippoglosso con Parmigiano (Parmesan crusted halibut, house made fettuccine, spinach, mushrooms, chive buerre blanc, tomato concassé) $31
  • Pesci di Meluzzo (Sautéed cod, parsnip puree, roasted celery root, lemon butter sauce) $27
  • Scaloppini di Vitello (Sautéed veal scaloppini, grilled eggplant, oven dried tomatoes, smoked mozzarella, sweet potato fries, natural jus) $29
  • Bistecca alla Griglia con Cavoli (Grilled bone in rib eye, brussel sprouts, potato puree, sherry demi-glace) $35

Since this poll will get far too complicated if I receive multiple selections from each of my readers, I’d ask that you leave a comment here with your first choice…the entree you would choose if you were attending PostBoy and MathGirl’s rehearsal dinner in February at Il Palio in Shelton, Connecticut.  No substitutions, please, and if you like another commenter’s pick, you’re allowed to say, like the lady in Katz’s Deli in When Harry Met Sally, “I’ll have what she’s having.”

    Welcome to Connecticut! Shelton deserves a blog of it’s own! (Even tho I’m in the ‘burbs outside Hartford.) Well, from my point of view, it all sounds good. I like to try all types of food. That’s why I’m on a diet. Speaking for DH (though he doesn’t know it) anything he can’t say or pronounce ~ he’s a meat & potato kind of guy, everything in it’s own pile. So, to be safe, the New York Strip steak gets my vote, even though I know the hubs would never touch polenta. Heard this nothing but good things about Il Palio ~ should be a good time!
